How to Set Attainable Goals
Goals are crucial to getting results.
Setting goals with the right mindset helps to make them more attainable. Be specific about what you want, when you want it, and how you will measure the results.
Here is how to set goals that you can achieve.
1. Determine the Goal
It must be specific, have a deadline and be measurable. Assess your capabilities and starting point.
2. Ask Yourself:
“What am I willing to do to achieve this goal?” Make a list behaviors that will lead to success.
3. Create a Motivating Tool
It is a visual reminder of ‘why’ you are choosing to train hard and eat clean.
- Something to get you off of your butt when you do not feel like training, or are having food cravings.
- Anything that gets you fired up will work.
- Put it in a place where you are most likely to give into a temptation.
4. Set Short, Mid-Term & Long-Term Goals
- Write your goals down
- Be as specific as possible
- Make them results-oriented
- Put a deadline date on them
- Keep them with you at all times – make a list in your cell phone!
Example Goals
Goal: I want to lose 10 pounds of fat so I can look good in my skinny jeans by 10/31
Short-term goal: I want to lose 3 pounds of fat per week for the first 3 weeks.
Long-term goal: I want to lose 50 pounds of fat this year.
Example Action Statements
I will eat healthy, un-processed foods every 3 hours to reduce food cravings.
I will train with weight 3 times per week and run 2 times per week.
